KNOW TRAUMA
Professional trainings and psycho-educational or therapeutic consultations for professionals and organizations who work with trauma survivors.
Knowledge empowers us. It helps to normalize and understand our neurobiological experience and remember that we share many of these same experiences with the whole human family, no matter our culture, religion, or country of origin.
This knowledge provides a meaningful context for trauma survivors as well as the professionals working with people impacted by trauma, who can’t help but be deeply affected by their work.
Judy Greenberg, MA., licensed psychologist, has been providing psychoeducational workshops, trainings, and consultations to mental-health professionals and other professionals such as U.S. based immigration lawyers working directly with trauma-impacted populations for over 30 years. The following are a sampling of services offered, and Judy is happy to develop a customized workshop or training series to fit the needs of your team.
Judy specializes in supporting individuals and organizations that work in the following contexts:
immigration lawyers & judges
refugee support
humanitarian aid
holocaust memorials and research
youth-centered programs
Services
-
An exploration of what trauma is, the neurobiology of how it effects us and how we are wired to recover. A clear and accessible understanding of our Central Nervous System and its working parts enables us to have the “owners manual” for being human, helping ourselves, our clients and our colleagues navigate through stress and trauma to find calm and centered with a healthy body and well functioning brain. This infrastructure, allows us to clearly understand what Vicarious Trauma is and how to mitigate the negative impacts our work may have on us.
-
This training helps you put into practice the understanding of Trauma and its impacts, so that your work can indeed not only “Do No Harm” to yourself and your clients, but can actually come from a framework of knowledge that allows you to help people recover. In this way you can do your work with vulnerable populations while centering the respect, dignity, and sense of agency. This training starts with a theoretical foundation and continues with concrete, scalable strategies that can be immediately implemented and incorporated into your everyday work.
-
Individual consultations are available to support the work and well being of each staff person. These sessions do not have to be work related as stress and trauma know no boundaries. How you show up at work is impacted by the stress and trauma in any part of your life; it is all connected and cumulative.
-
Support for leadership to implement or continue implementing a Trauma Informed Approach. These consultations provide leadership with guidance in how to best support their team members. This is especially important given the unique vulnerabilities and the kind of stress working with trauma exposes us to.
-
Judy will work with you & your team to develop a presentation or workshop to address the needs of your organization. Examples of previous topics include adolescent development & mental health, stress reduction techniques, and strategies for managing chronic high-stress contexts.
“The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to walk through water without getting wet.”
— Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
